13 Months Later… & New Pics!

21 February 2012  chris, No Comments

It’s been 13 months since I had my Incognito Braces put on. I’ve posted a before/now picture below for you to check out!

The bottom teeth are much less crowded (yeah!). He put in a special new wire that is actually raising the height of my front lower teeth to match the height of the others. It’s working out really well so far.

You can probably see the “gap” in the front teeth as compared to the original. This is actually intentional. Dr. Comella is slowly changing the shape of my 2 front teeth so they look better cosmetically. So, over time that gap should close up and the teeth will look great.

Moving Right Along

Hi, all. I’ve had my Incognito lingual braces on for 12 months now. Crazy how time flies.

In fact, I had an appointment with Dr. Comella this morning. Just a check up. They didn’t change any wires this time. From what he tells me, he’s working on fine tuning the teeth at this point. There are a couple teeth that need to have the angles perfected. He is working hard to make my smile perfect which I really appreciate.

At my appointment today, he decided that he’s going to order an additional corrective wire for my lower teeth. So that will be placed in a couple weeks. Other than that, everything is going great.

I’m continuing to floss and water-pik a LOT. A lot of people ask me about the speech issue which for the record – is non-existent. When I tell people about my braces, they all reply: “what braces”? Lol. It’s the best….

Let me know if you have any questions or comments about my Incognito invisible braces!

Holy Cow – 9 months have flown by!

I can’t believe it’s been 9 months since I had my Incognito Braces put on. The orthodontist estimated 18 months for my total treatment time initially — so that means I’m 1/2 way! I’m hoping perhaps I’ll be done a bit sooner but no official word yet from Dr. Comella.

I’ve been having appointments every 3-6 weeks or so. The process now is that the doctor changes out either my upper or lower wire at each visit. They untie the wire from each bracket and then take out the “old” wire. The new wire (one that is a bit thicker each time) gets inserted and then they re-tie the ties to keep it in place.

Each visit is relatively quick and painless (literally).

I can eat most foods but have to be careful with some things like nuts, gum, sticky candy or anything that is really super crunchy (like carrots or apples). I find that I can eat them but I cut them up into small pieces first.

Still loyal to my trusty Water-Pik – LOL! Use that sucker all the time. When I had a recent wire change appointment, my gums bled a little but mostly because I haven’t been flossing as much as I should.

Let me know if you have any questions/comments. New pictures will probably be posted in a couple weeks.

The Latest Photos!

18 August 2011  chris, No Comments

Hi, everyone. I posted some new photos below for you all to see. I am 7 months into my treatment — and boy, can you see the difference! My ongoing, regular 4 or 6 week appointments continue. At each appointment, they change out a wire (usually the top OR the bottom wire) and sometimes put on a few “ties” on some teeth that need special attention. The appointment usually lasts 40 minutes or so. Sometimes less.

After my appointments, my speech changes for a few days as my tongue & mouth get used to the latest wire and ties. But after a day or two, my speech regulates and you can’t even tell. And of course, the teeth will ache for 2 days after the appointment.

That’s about it for now. Everything is going well and I’m very happy…

Latest Checkup

Had another “check up” last week. My teeth continue to look great. Amazing what a difference in just 6 months. I will post new pictures in a few weeks. My next appt. is mid-August.

Thanks to those who have posted comments & questions. Keep ‘em coming!

Everything Is Going Great

28 June 2011  chris, 6 Comments

Hi everyone. Sorry it’s been so long since my last post. But the good news is that I haven’t had much to say!

My Incognito braces are doing really well. Every 6 weeks I have a checkup appointment where they make some adjustments. They put on some extra “ties” on certain teeth and change out the wire sometimes.

I don’t really notice much difference after each appointment. My teeth will ache for 2-3 days after each adjustment but nothing unbearable. Just take some ibuprofen. :)

Eating is pretty much the same. I can eat what I want for the most part. I try to avoid really crunchy or sticky things.

Still using my Water-Pik religiously and brush often.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Here are before & after photos of my teeth & braces. Crazy how fast the teeth are moving! My teeth ached for a few days after the appointment last week. Pretty much back to normal now. Still a bit sore on my upper, right teeth but eating is back to normal. For about 3-4 days, I was eating softer foods that weren’t quite so chewy.

First Checkup; Progressing Nicely

30 March 2011  chris, No Comments

Had my first checkup today. It’s been 7 weeks since my last appointment (where they put the braces on the top arch) and 11 weeks since they put the initial set on the bottom.

Today’s appointment was quick and very straightforward. Maybe 15 minutes or so. They put a new wire in the top braces and then moved one of the wires on the lower teeth.

It’s been a couple hours since my appointment and my teeth are starting to get a bit sore. Don’t really notice it unless I bite down or try to eat. I took some Tylenol. :)

Next appointment is in 5-6 weeks. Looking at May 5.

They also took some more pictures today which I will post as soon as I can.

Upper Brackets & More

15 February 2011  chris, No Comments

It’s been 5 days since I had the brackets put on the inside of my upper teeth and everything is going really well. When I first had them on, it took some getting used to. Definitely a funny sensation when putting my teeth together, talking, spitting, chewing & swallowing.

But after the first day or so, I was pretty used to them. Cleaning them is a chore. It has become part of the daily routine. I eat….waterpik….brush…mouthwash. And repeat! Probably 4 or 5 times a day.

My speech certainly is funny right now. My “S’s” sound like I have a lisp. Should hopefully only last a few weeks at most. They say that I will get better at saying the words and it will improve over time. Here’s hoping!

Going to try and post some more pictures in a few minutes….
